The factory injection pump that came standard on the 98.5-02 Dodge Cummins trucks could best be described as a Band-Aid, or temporary fix, while Bosch was in the process of producing the common rail injection pumps that would be featured on the 2003 and newer trucks. While the VP44 is not necessarily a bad pump, they do have the highest failure rate compared to any of the other pumps, and most of the issues stem from inadequate lift pump pressure.

- 235 horsepower models were found on 1998.5-2002 model years with an automatic transmission or 5 speed manual.Â
- 245 horsepower models were found only on 6 speed manual transmissions.

- Wire tapping the pump with a performance module will void any and all warranty.
