The Story
When you need an emergency engine shutdown system, then BD has the solution that is hard to pass up. Some industries such as mining, oil refinery, forestry, mobile welding, septic removal and refueling require some vehicles to have an emergency engine shutdown in place. The most effective method for this is to cut the air supply to the engine, ensuring fuel ignition to cease. With BD's Positive Air Shutdown (PAS), an inline butterfly valve is placed in the air intake line, and when activated by its heavy duty electrical solenoid, the engine will shutdown within seconds.
Standard applications include automatic over-speed electronics and CAC pipes included for some vehicles. The PAS butterfly valve design reduces the number of parts and the overall size as compared to competitive units. Aluminum and stainless components, plus weatherproof electrical connectors are used to prevent corrosion. Easy installation with no welding needed for hose retaining beads by utilizing innovative bead boot locks.
The Positive Air Shutdown is available with two different switching mechanisms. For most applications mentioned above, there is the system that includes an electronic overspeed protection that watches the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) versus engine RPM and will shut the valve anytime engine RPM increases substantially without applied throttle. The second way this is available is with a simple mechanical on/off switch, which is especially great for sled pullers or drag racers which require an air shutoff for certain pulling/racing regulations.
